Considering Hospice2018-07-27T19:17:12+00:00

Hospice is a specialized type of care for those facing life-limiting illnesses and who are no longer pursuing or benefiting from aggressive or experimental treatments. At this juncture, the primary focus shifts to the patient’s quality of life.

At Bethany Hospice, our focus is quality of life for individuals dealing with a life-limiting illness.

We offer a holistic approach to care, addressing the physical and emotional needs of both patients and caregivers. We provide supplemental care to assist the patient’s primary caregiver. The primary caregiver could be a family member, friend or facility staff. Patients who are able to care for themselves in a home setting are accepted, as are patients who need continuous assistance.

The Bethany Hospice Team includes physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, hospice aides, counselors, and volunteers. All team members are trained to assess pain, and our clinicians are experts in pain control and symptom management. We maintain an on-call staff to address the after-hours needs of our patients and caregivers.

About the Hospice Benefit

The hospice benefit is a comprehensive healthcare approach designed for patients and their families coping with a life-limiting illness. Our goal at Bethany Hospice is to provide the highest quality of care to help our patients maintain dignity with the greatest possible comfort. We provide care and support not only to our patients but to their families and caregivers as well.

Our hospice team consists of nurses, home health aides, social workers, volunteers, chaplains and bereavement care specialists. Other services and therapies are offered as needed.

Care is provided in all settings – wherever the patient calls home – including the patient’s home, personal care homes or nursing facilities.

Hospice services are covered by Medicare and Medical Assistance. In addition, some commercial insurance policies offer a hospice care benefit. Bethany Hospice provides services regardless of patient’s ability to pay.

Patient Services are provided without regard to race, color, creed, age, gender, sexual orientation, handicap (mental or physical), or place of national origin. We service patients in Allegheny County and surrounding areas. We are available 24 hours a day / 7 days a week / 365 days a year.
